My musical obsession with AIDA...

...and the lyrics that come with it.

So, for those of you who are unaware of the story, AIDA is about the Egyptian Princess Amneris, her fiancee Radames, and her handmaid Aida (who is actually the princess of the opposing country). Amneris' father is the Pharoh, who is at war with the King of Nubia (Aida's father).

Long story short, Radames and Aida fall in love behind Amneris' back. It's like ancient Romeo & Juliet, only with music by Elton John and Tim Rice!

Sherie Rene Scott (Amneris), Adam Pascal (Radames), and Heather Headley (Aida)

As with any love story, there is passion, and passion in musicals means passionate ballads! Here are some of my favorite lyrics:

"In neglige or formal, I am anything but normal. For dress has always been my strongest suit!"- Amneris (Strongest Suit)

"Why do I want him still? Why, when there's nothing there? How to go on with the rest of my life, to pretend I don't care?"- Amneris (I Know the Truth)

"Is it written in the stars? Are we paying for some crime? Is that all that we are good for, just a stretch of mortal time? Or some god's experiment in which we have no say? In which we're giving paradise, but only for a day."- Radames and Aida (Written In the Stars)

"We all lead such elaborate lives."-Radames (Elaborate Lives)

There is definitely something to learn here, first: Love triangles suck; second: broken hearts suck too.

3 Inches

I was watching 'Sex and the City' with my mom the other night, and Carrie Bradshaw said (in voice-over): "If I weren't perpetually 15 minutes late, I would be a completely different person."

I've often wondered how different my life would be if I were 3 inches taller. Would I be a completely different person? More confident? Successful? Stronger?

Why, you ask me, would I wonder this crazy idea? Well, I'm short, and I often theorize that because of it, people do not take me seriously (or expect big ideas from such a small person). So, I had a dream that I was just 3 inches taller, and believe me, I was a completely different person.

I was at eye-level with every person I encountered in my daily routine, I was more confident, and ultimately felt more successful because of how people reacted to me.

In reality, if I wore my tallest heels every day I would in fact be just right, but how real would that personality be if I were always thinking about how much pain I could feel in my feet and tending to blisters at the end of each workday?

I guess I could always look to date a guy exactly my height and not think twice about my height, so maybe that's something to consider.

Princess Me

So, working at the bridal shop means working around lots of shiny and sparkly accessories. One of my faves is the tiara we have in the showroom. According to Crystal (another Bridal Consultant), it is a legit tiara. Of course, you can't have a tiara without a princess dress to match. Which is why, when I decide to marry, I will be wearing princess attire.

Elise's Homecoming!!!

Anyway, Elise came home from her mission barely a week after Kari did, and her homecoming was this past weekend. She served in germany, and it was wonderful to see her again (and have another phi-reunion at the open house).
Me, Elise, and Kari

Kari was happy to see Elise.
