So I've been trying to power walk every day to improve not only my physique, but also my lung capacity to help me when I sing. It's been so easy to track everything with my pedometer app on my phone, I know exactly how many steps, miles, time, and speed I'm getting out of a walk.
My goal is to get up to 4 miles a day, for at least 5 days a week, making the weekly goal to hit 20 miles for the week. I'm hoping that I can learn to take advantage of my days off, with the exception of Sunday (seeing as it is the day of rest).
One of the items on my 'bucket list' for 2012 was to lose 3 inches off of my waist and my hips. While I don't know how effective my power walking will be toward my losing inches, but I'm hoping that my consistency will help me make some progress toward my goal.
I've found that when I'm consistent (5 days in a row at least), I'm not as tired come midday, I wake up earlier than expected (usually around 6:30am instead of 7:30am when my alarm is set to go off), and I just feel better. The first two weeks I started power walking, I lost 3lbs. Now, I'm more concerned about my muscle tone, endurance, and breath control. I've also become incredibly aware of how much water I want to drink (also, the triple digit weather hasn't helped quench the thirst). I've also found that when I'm power walking consistently, I crave healthier foods and not sugary junk.
Summary: by the end of August, I will be in the habit of reaching 20 miles a week. I will feel better, be more confident, and be in great shape. Mind over matter really is the key. You have to find your own motivation.
